ABOUT US

A Brief History of Mill Creek Sportsmen's Association

It was the opinion among the Sportsmen and Fishermen of the community (Bird-in-Hand, Bareville, Leola, Leacock, Intercourse, Monterey, Ronks, Smoketown, Soudersburg and Witmer) that the PA Game Commision stocking program was inadequate compared to the number of hunters who went into the field and the number of fishermen (especially from outside the county) who fished the streams in the community. They realized that if they were to enjoy their sport in the future, they must organize and help themselves.

Experience gained from press reports of the programs of Sportsman’s clubs throughout the county, they became enthused and arranged a pre-organization meeting in the Bareville fire hall in September 1936. Allen Wiker was named temporary chairman of this meeting. A committee of twelve men were appointed to act as a nominating and By-Laws committee, to meet in Intercourse on October, 6, 1936. At a following meeting in October they adopted their By-Laws and unanimously elected the men as proposed by the committee.

Club testimonials

I have great memories of this club as a small child, Christmas celebrations with Santa, Easter Egg Hunts, Block shoots, and more. Although as life would have it, you get busy living and I went my way. Although through some strange events, I eventually found myself back at M.C.S.A. during a time when a new board of directors had taken over. The want for change was taking place, and it looks promising. Excited to hear others felt the club needed to get back to it's Sportsmen's roots and pride, I along with my best friend became new members. The indoor range and the staff that runs it are awesome! The knowledge of gun safety, and stories I hear from the Range Masters, Directors, and club members are some of the greatest I have heard since I was a small boy sitting around the camp fire with my family and friends. And the monthly Sunday breakfast, what a great morning with good food and conversation! I can't wait to see all the changes that take place in the weeks to come and look forward to helping whenever I can to get this club back to the way it was when I was a small boy.
